New for 2017

The Trailhawk is a new model within the Grand Cherokee lineup.

Built for The Trail

Like all other Jeep® models, the Grand Cherokee has always been defined by off-road capability. That makes it even more distinctive in an age when most SUVs are really car-based crossovers that can’t handle anything tougher than a gravel driveway. For 2017, Jeep is doubling down on off-road capability with the new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk model. As its name implies, this machine was built for the trail.

Performance

The Trailhawk is the most off-road-capable version of the Grand Cherokee and builds on the hardware available in other Grand Cherokee models. That includes one of the most diverse and impressive powertrain lineups currently available in any SUV.

Chrysler’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is standard equipment. It boasts 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and, like every other Trailhawk engine, comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The Pentastar gets an EPA-rated 21 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway).*

If a gasoline V6 isn’t to your liking, how about a diesel? The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 produces 240 hp and a stump-pulling 420 lb-ft of torque. The advantage of a diesel is good fuel economy, as evidenced by the EcoDiesel’s 24 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway).* The Trailhawk is also available with the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, which produces 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, and gets an EPA-rated 17 mpg combined (14 mpg city, 22 mpg highway).*

Just as important as the engine is the Trailhawk’s off-road tech. It’s equipped with many features that are only available as options on other Grand Cherokee models, including the Quadra-Drive II® four-wheel drive system; electronic locking rear differential; and Quadra-Lift® air suspension, the latter tuned specifically for the Trailhawk. This rough-and-ready model also features skid plates and Select-Speed Control with Hill Ascent Control.

Features

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is a five-door, five-seat SUV. It’s the sixth model in the Grand Cherokee lineup, joining the Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT. The Trailhawk is priced starting from $42,995,** putting it near the middle of the lineup in terms of pricing.

Standard features include a power driver’s seat, 60/40-split folding rear bench seat; heated front and second-row seats; ventilated front seats; leather/suede upholstery; auto-dimming rearview mirror and exterior mirrors; dual-zone automatic climate control; compass; heated steering wheel; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; memory system for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and radio; and Uconnect® infotainment system with 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Optional features include navigation, Blu-Ray™ compatible dual-screen video system, HD Radio™, SiriusXM® Traffic real-time traffic information, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and more.

Design

The Trailhawk adds distinctive model-specific styling elements that enhance the Grand Cherokee’s handsome looks. The traditional Jeep seven-slot grille, boxy wheel arches, and upright profile give the Grand Cherokee a traditional SUV look, augmented with modern elements like LED signature lighting.

Building on that foundation, the Trailhawk is distinguished by red tow hooks, 18-inch Goodyear Adventure off-road tires with Kevlar® reinforcement, Trailhawk and Trail Rated badges with red accents, mirror caps and roof rack with Neutral Gray accents, a glare-reducing black hood sticker, and optional Mopar® rock rails for added protection off road.

The Trailhawk is just designed to look good. Its body helps maximize approach and departure angles, allowing for greater maneuverability off road. Approach angle is 29.8 degrees (or 36.1 degrees with the lower fascia removed), the breakover angle is 27.1 degrees, and the departure angle is 22.8 degrees. The Trailhawk also boasts 10.8 inches of ground clearance.

On the inside, the Trailhawk gets model-specific sport seats trimmed in suede and black leather, as well as red accent stitching, brushed Piano Black appliques, and a gunmetal finish on all painted interior parts. The standard Uconnect® infotainment system includes an “off-road pages” feature that displays things like wheel articulation, suspension height, and the four-wheel drive and driving modes.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, Enhanced Accident Response System, hill-start assist, rearview camera, and a full array of airbags. Optional features include lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and blind spot monitoring with cross path detection.
